Overview

Panenku ("My Harvest") is a mobile app design that brings smart farming to everyday growers. By connecting to IoT devices in the field, the app lets users monitor soil temperature, keep track of harvest dates and water their plants automatically on a schedule, all from their phone.

Project at a Glance

  • Type: Mobile app, UI/UX design
  • Platform: Android
  • Tools: Figma
  • Audience: Farmers and home growers
  • Year: 2022

The Challenge

Agriculture is the backbone of many communities, yet farming productivity keeps declining. Fewer people are becoming farmers, and those who do often lack the tools and knowledge to manage their crops efficiently. Through literature research, observation and interviews with farmers and landowners, we identified four recurring problems:

  • Watering large fields by hand is exhausting and time-consuming.
  • Soil conditions and quality are hard to monitor.
  • Plants are often left unwatered, whether because of illness or simple forgetfulness, which lowers crop quality and price.
  • Growers often don't know the right time to harvest and have limited access to farming knowledge.

Who We Designed For

We built two personas from our research:

  • The field farmer, a 32-year-old who manages a fairly large plot of land but struggles to irrigate so many plants and to keep track of soil quality.
  • The home grower, a 28-year-old who keeps a small hydroponic garden for her daily cooking but often forgets to water it, isn't sure when to harvest, and wants to learn more about farming.

User Flow

The splash screen checks whether the user is already signed in. Returning users go straight to the app, while new users are guided through onboarding, registration and login. Inside the app, four tabs cover everything: Home, Plants, Community and Profile.

From Wireframe to High Fidelity

We began with grayscale wireframes to lock in the structure and flow of every screen. Once the layout was validated against the user flow, we moved to high-fidelity design, adding the visual identity, real content and interaction details.

Key Features

Onboarding & Sign-In

A calm, leaf-textured splash screen and a single onboarding message, "Automate your farming with Panenku", set the tone before a simple login and registration flow.

Plant Management

Users can add each plant with a photo, name, connected IoT device and harvest window. The plant detail page shows a harvest progress bar (plant age, harvest time and days remaining) and a live soil-temperature gauge ranging from dry to good.

IoT Devices & Automatic Watering

Users pair nearby IoT devices with their plants in one tap. From there, they can water a plant instantly with a single on/off control, or set up automatic watering schedules by choosing the time, days of the week and duration. Crops get watered on time, even when the grower forgets.

Home & Community

The home screen greets users with today's weather, a quick overview of their plants and the latest community headlines. Notifications remind them when it's time to water, when a crop is ready for harvest, or when the soil is getting dry. In the Community tab, growers share tips and questions through photo posts that others can like, comment on, share and save.

Profile

A simple profile page lets users manage their personal details and account.

Visual Design

The visual identity is built on deep, natural greens and close-up leaf photography that immediately signal growth and freshness. White rounded cards sit on top of the leafy headers to keep information clear and readable, while clean icons and consistent green buttons make every action easy to find, even for first-time smartphone farmers.

Closing Thoughts

Panenku shows how thoughtful design can make IoT technology feel approachable to the people who need it most. By turning complex tasks like irrigation scheduling and soil monitoring into a few simple taps, the app helps growers save time, protect their crops and harvest with confidence. It is also designed to make farming more appealing to a new generation.
