Overview

Bumiku ("My Earth") is a mobile app design that makes taking care of the environment easy, social and rewarding. It brings everything a would-be volunteer needs into one place: discovering green movements to join, learning how to protect nature, connecting with like-minded people, and earning points for every contribution.

The concept was built around the Sustainable Development Goal on Climate Action, with a focus on caring for and restoring nature.

Project at a Glance

  • Type: Mobile app, UI/UX design
  • Platform: iOS & Android
  • Tools: Figma
  • Audience: Environmental activists and anyone who wants to take part in protecting the environment
  • Year: 2022

The Challenge

The effects of environmental damage are everywhere: natural disasters, endangered plants and animals, and polluted air. Yet many people still see environmental care as someone else's job. Many also know little about the real benefits of greening their surroundings, and those who want to help often don't know where to start.

The challenge was to design an app that lowers that barrier: making it simple to find and join real-world movements, learn along the way, and stay motivated over time.

Who We Designed For

We defined three user personas to guide the design:

  • The concerned student, who keeps seeing polluted environments hurt living things and hopes for an innovation that makes it easier to support conservation.
  • The frustrated observer, who is troubled by forest fires, illegal logging and other destructive activities and wants to see more eco-friendly initiatives.
  • The community-minded professional, who notices how little people know about conservation and wants to raise awareness around them.

Their shared needs shaped the three pillars of the app: action, education and community, tied together by a reward system that keeps people coming back.

User Flow

After a short onboarding, users land on a home screen with four main tabs: Home, Movements, Community and Profile. Each tab leads to a focused set of tasks, so every feature is reachable within two taps.

Key Features

Home

A personal dashboard shows the user's points and leaderboard rank at a glance, followed by the latest green movements they can contribute to.

Movement Contributions

A searchable feed of environmental activities, such as tree-planting drives and recycling seminars. Each movement shows its date, status (ongoing or closed) and a short description. Users can like, comment, share and save movements, just as they would on a social feed.

Community

A single hub with three tabs:

  • Education: practical articles such as the best planting methods.
  • News: updates on environmental issues.
  • Discussion: group chats for each movement, plus personal messages.

Points & Rewards

Every contribution earns points. A podium-style leaderboard celebrates the most active users, and points can be redeemed for e-wallet balance. This gives users a tangible reason to stay involved.

Visual Design

The interface uses a deep forest green as its primary color, balanced with warm orange accents for points, ranks and highlights. A subtle leaf motif runs through every header, and a friendly illustration of a person planting on the globe gives the app a hopeful, approachable personality. Rounded cards, generous spacing and clear typography keep each screen calm and easy to scan.

Closing Thoughts

Bumiku reframes environmental care from an individual burden into a shared, rewarding journey. By combining real-world action, accessible education and a supportive community in one simple app, the design helps people move from caring about the planet to actually doing something for it.
